Bonding with Artie
We’ve been focused on bonding with Artie over the past two weeks and determining a routine that helps him settle and integrate into our world. So far, like a new born child, there has been a strong focus on pees and poos. However, we’ve now got meal times, toilet breaks and crate sleeping sorted.
Artie has been the focus of my photography for the past two weeks. While I’ve enjoyed capturing our moments together as a family, I’ve been struggling with my output from a stylistic perspective. I make my images using my customised recipes on my Fujifilm X-T5 which acts like shooting on a film camera with a personalised film stock. The only difference is that through the viewfinder, I get to preview the image as it would appear on the “film stock”.
I get to tweak the white balance, contrast and other settings as I shoot, giving me more creative control up front in the image making process instead of the editing floor via Lightroom. I tend to shoot in “Daylight” regardless of the time of day and I like the resulting images. There is generally a warmer tinge to my images and I tend to lighten the effect with increased exposure. However, recently I’ve been struggling to nail the white balance of my images. The images I produce have not hit the mark for me. Below are a couple of images using my recipe and post Lightroom editing.
At this stage, I’m not sure if this marks a shift in my creative approach or simply just a preference for a specific set of images. I’ll continue to experiment and enjoy the journey.
