From Waterfalls to Radio Control Cars

Last weekend's exploration brought us to Maketu Waterfall. This Sunday, we explored a little closer to home, exploring the Saleyard in Pukekohe, just past the train station. The buildings looks interesting and we decided to drive up to have a closer look.

When we pulled into the entrance of the Saleyard, we saw sales office on the left and a group of people setting up mobile gazebos to the right. I went ahead to start photographing the vibrant green and yellow buildings and the cattle stalls while Chris went over to check out what was happening on the right.

Part of me was excited to photograph the Sales Yard offices and another part of me was super nosey about why people were gathering in the car park on a Sunday morning. Chris' gregarious nature led a chat with the party on the right and opened the door for me join in without any need for awkward conversations on my part. He is definitely an awesome photographer wing man.

We found out that the group were there to race Radio Control cars. They gather to race regularly and there was a competition that day. Josh, the chap that Chris was talking to was such a welcoming and enthusiastic individual. He gave us an introduction to the sport of radio control car racing and displayed a genuine friendliness that is sorely lacking in most interactions today. I asked Josh if it was alright to make some photographs and he shyly said yes.

Thank you Josh. You were the special X-factor that made our Sunday morning exploration so special.
